Teen Ministry
Scavenger Hunt

It wasn’t your typical hang out at the mall. When you read Judges
21:15, does it bring to mind any particular store at the mall? How
about the Gap? Such was the challenge at the teen ministry’s scavenger
hunt last month at Sunland Park Mall. Teen ministry leaders, Armando
and Priscilla Mendez, divided the teens into three teams: girls,
older boys and younger boys. Each team was given a list of ten verses
to look up in their Bibles and then they had to match the verse
with the name of a store at Sunland Park Mall. The first team to
come up with all ten stores would win. Priscilla said, “I felt that
this was the first time that the teen ministry as a whole had a
fun time. They worked well within their groups, but of course, when
the girls won, the boys were not so happy. There is still a controversy
over who really won.” Armando said, “It was pretty encouraging to
see the teens excited running up and down the mall with their Bibles
in their hands looking up scripture. They didn’t care what people
thought.” One team didn’t have anything to write with, but they
improvised by taking cell phone pictures of the store names! The
teens had three visitors come out for the scavenger hunt, none of
whom had read much of the Bible, but by the end they volunteered
to read scriptures out loud. They really bonded with the teens and
since then one of them has been coming to church. Try your hand
at matching these verses with store names and see how you do!
